Josh Cohen is an accomplished trial lawyer with over 20 years of experience representing companies and individuals in criminal prosecutions, investigations, and collateral civil proceedings. A Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, he is described in Chambers USA as “a real scholar and a great writer” who is “very personable and very well respected by judges.”

Josh combines strategic vision with exquisite attention to detail and a knack for distilling and communicating complex concepts.

As a former public defender and big-firm litigator, Josh is a reliable, trusted adviser to clients large and small. He recently secured a rare dismissal at trial for a senior trader at a global investment bank charged criminally with manipulating the price of foreign-exchange options. He represents a former senior executive of a leading financial-services company in multiple enforcement and civil actions arising from allegations of improper sales practices, as well as a large global consulting firm in multidistrict litigation related to the opioid epidemic.

Recent clients also include a senior executive of a real estate investment company in a federal public integrity investigation; individuals facing joint criminal-civil investigations into alleged insider trading; the former owner of a large offshore sportsbook in a federal investigation into illegal gambling; and the founder of a technology start-up on federal securities charges.

His clients appreciate his accessibility, candor, and personal investment in their cases and longer-term objectives.

Josh received a J.D. from Yale Law School and a B.A. summa cum laude from Williams College. He clerked for the Honorable Charles R. Breyer on the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.
